Johann Gottlieb Holzer, a single merchant (Kaufmann), settled in the Volga German colony of Katharinenstadt on 5 May 1767. He is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 210 along with a note that he's working as a day-laborer (Lohnarbeiter).
Gottlieb Holzer, a single choir master (Kantor), is recorded on the 1776 Katharinenstadt Grundbuch [Land Register] in Household No. 196 along with a note that he had moved to St. Petersburg.
Both the 1767 census and the 1776 Katharinenstadt Land Register record that Johann Gottlieb Holzer came from the German village of Preßburg in Hungary.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Holzer family among the Volga German colonies.
