Johann Gottlieb Holzer, a single merchant (Kaufmann), settled in the Volga German colony of Katharinenstadt on 5 May 1767. He is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 210 along with a note that he's working as a day-laborer (Lohnarbeiter).

The 1767 census records that Johann Gottlieb Holzer came from the German village of Preßburg in Hungary.
