Discussion & Documentation

Johan Hinr. Höpner, a miller (Müller) frm the area of Darmstadt, & Anna Barbara Rau from the area of Darmstadt were married on 28 May 1766 in Lübeck. The marriage is recorded in the parish register of St. Jacob's Lutheran Church in Lübeck.

[Johann] Heinrich Höppner and his wife Anna Barbara arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard a pinque named Slon (Elephant) under the command of Lieutenant Sergey Panov.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Krasnoyar on 20 July 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 32.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Heinrich Höppner was a butcher from the German region of Darmstadt. The 1767 census records that he was a farmer from the German village of Nidda in the Darmstadt region.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Höppner family among the Volga German colonies.
