Discussion & Documentation

Johannes Humbert [sic], a clothmaker (Tuchmacher) from Grünberg, married 23 May 1766 in Pastor Peterssen's house in Lübeck to Catharina Reichart née Scheitz from the county of Isenburg. The marriage is recorded in the parish register of St. Jacob's Lutheran Church in Lübeck.

Johann Humbert, a weaver (Weber), his wife Anna, and [step-]son Nikolaus [Reichert] (age 20) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum in Russia on 19 July 1766 aboard a snow-brig named Christina under the command of Skipper Jacob Stappenberg.

Johannes Honburt [sic], a craftsman (Handwerker), and his wife Anna Katharina settled in the Volga German colony of Krasnoyar on 20 July 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 20. Nikolaus Reichert is recorded there in Household No. 21. [See Reichert Family.]

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Humbert came from the German region of Darmstadt. The 1767 census records that Johannes Honburt [sic] came from the German village of Grünberg in the Darmstadt region and that his wife Anna Katharina came from the German village of Büdingen in the region of Isenburg.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Humbert family among the Volga German colonies.
