There are two Ifland families that arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard a pinque named Slon (Elephant) under the command of Lieutenant Sergey Panov. Their relationship to each other, if any, needs further research.
(1) Hartmann Ifland, son of Johannes & Elisabetha Ifland from Lützelhausen, was baptized 2 October 1738 in Altenhaßlau. He married in Rothenbergen on 5 January 1764 to Anna Maria Hessler, widow of Jacob Hessler.
Hartmann Ifland, a farmer, and his wife Anna Maria arrived in Oranienbaum along with 3 of Anna Maria's children from her first marriage (Christina [Hessler], age 18; Anna Margaretha [Hessler], age 13; Friedrich [Hessler], age 5). [See Hessler Family.]
Hartmann Ifland died following arrival in Russia and his widow, Anna Maria, remarried to Konrad Fischer. [See Fischer Family.]
They settled in the Volga German colony of Norka on 15 August 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 67. The three children recorded on the 1767 Census of Norka in Household No. 67 with the surname of Ifland are actually Anna Maria's children by an earlier marriage to Johann Jakob Hessler who had died before leaving Germany.
(2) Anna Margaretha Ifland and her sister Anna Maria Ifland (age 20) arrived in Oranienbaum.
It is not known what happened to these sisters after arrival in Russia.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that both of these Ifland families came from the German region of Isenburg.
There are no known surviving male descendants of this Ifland family among the Volga German colonies.
