Johann Melchior Jäger, a farmer, his wife Anna Katharina, and sons (Thomas, age 10¼; Johann, age 4) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 11 June 1766 aboard a boat named Saratov under the command of Midshipman Ivan Korsakov.
Johann Melchior Jäger, a farmer, his wife Anna Dorothea (widow of Johannes Müller), and son Thomas (age 10) are recorded on the 1767 census of Stahl am Karaman in Household No. 8. They had arrived in Stahl am Karaman on 15 July 1767.
He remarried to Anna Elisabeth née Riel.
The death of Johann Melchior Jäger on 18 July 1789 (age 64) is recorded in the parish register of Stahl am Karaman.
The death of Anna Elisabeth Jäger née Riel on 25 August 1801 (widow, age 70) is recorded in the parish register of Stahl am Karaman.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Melchior Jäger came from the German region of Hanau while the 1767 census records that he came from the area of Friedberg.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Jäger family among the Volga German colonies.
