Jandel*
[Johann] Joseph Jandel, a miller (Müller), and his wife Rosina Margaretha arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 8 August 1766 aboard the Danish galliot Engel Rafael under the command of Skipper Ehlert Kongsted.
Joseph settled in the Volga German colony of Brabander on 26 June 1767 and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No 90 along with his new wife Maria Barbara and her children (Maria Barbara, age 19; Johannes, age 11 [surname Schmidt]).
Joseph Jandel and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Brabander in Household No. Bn18.
The death of Joseph Jandel in 1804 is recorded on the 1811 census of Brabander in Household No. 18.
The Oranienbam passenger list records that Joseph Jandel came from the German region of Bayern (Bavaria). The 1767 census records that he came from the German village of Leinberg in the Kurpfalz region.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Jandel family among the Volga German colonies.
