Friedrich Kahler, a tobacco shopkeeper (Tabakskrämer), his wife Katharina, and daughter Susanna (age ¼) are recorded on the 1767 census of Preuss in Household No. 10. They had settled there on 12 May 1767.

The 1767 census records that Friedrich Kahler came from the German village of Niederstetten in the Kurmainz region.
