Discussion & Documentation

Andreas Kelberg, a farmer, and his family arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 25 July 1766 aboard the snow-brig named Maria Sophia under the command of Skipper Johann Bauert.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Preuss on 16 August 1767.  Andreas died 9 November 1767. His widow Barbara and their children are recorded on the 1767 census of Preuss in Household No. 110.

The 1767 census records that the Kelberg family came from the German village of Burglengenfeld in the Kurpfalz.
