Jakob Kempf, a single farmer, arrived from Lübeck via Reval [Estonia] at the port of Oranienbaum on 24 May 1766 aboard a pinque named Лапоминк (Lapomink - a Russian river) under the command of Lieutenant Dmitry Krykov.
He settled in the Volga German colony of Preuss on 12 May 1767 and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 9 along with his bride Katharina.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Jakob Kempf came from the German region of Mainz. The 1767 census records that Jakob Kempf came from the German village of Oberhöchstadt in the Kurmainz region.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Kempf family among the Volga German colonies.
