Nikolaus Kochum, a farmer, his wife Katharina, and son Jonas settled in the Volga German colony of Kamenka on 28 April 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 55 along with daughter Barbara (age 1).

The 1767 census records that Nikolaus Kochum came from the German town of Koblenz.
