Discussion & Documentation

Johann Kofent, a cobbler (Schuhmacher), and his family arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 12 September 1766 aboard an English frigate under the command of the Skipper Adam Beerfeier.

Johann Kofent, his wife Anna, and children (Anna, age 5; Andreas, age 3) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that both children died en route.

They arrived in the colony of Beauregard on 3 August 1767 where they are recorded on the appendix to the 1767 census of Beauregard in Household No. 20. They relocated to the colony of Cäsarsfeld in 1768.

The 1767 census records that Johann Kofent came from the German village of Erlach in the Brandenburg region.

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
