Discussion & Documentation

Kaspar Koppel, a farmer, and his sister Elisabeth arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 12 September 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.

Caspar Coppell [sic] and his sister Elisabeth are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from Oranienbaum to Saratov in 1767.

Johann Kaspar Koppel, a farmer, and his wife Katharina are recorded on an appendix to the 1767 census of Paulskaya in Household No. 24 along with orphan Johannes Egler (age 10). The 1767 census does not record a relationship between the Koppel and Egler families.

The widow and children of Kaspar Koppel are recorded on the 1798 census of Kind in Household No. Kd22.

Friedrich Koppel, son of Kaspar Koppel, and his family are recorded on the 1834 census of Kind in Households No. 23 & 45.

Friedrich Koppel and his family are recorded on the 1857 census of Kind in Households No. 47, 48, 73.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Kaspar Koppel came from the German region of Hanau. The 1767 census records that he came from the German village of Enzheim.
