Matthias Kornmann, son of Johann Georg Kornmann and Maria Eva Hech, was baptized 13 November 1718 in Steinfeld. He married Catherine Eichenlaub on 4 November 1742 in Steinfeld. The baptism of several of their children are recorded in the parish register of St. Leodegar Catholic Church in Steinfeld: (1) Catherine Ursula, baptized 21 October 1744; (2) Margaret, baptized 2 October 1745; (3) Anna Maria, baptized 29 April 1748, died 30 August 1750; (4) Johann Georg, baptized 10 April 1751; (5) Johann, baptized 7 March 1754; (6) Johann Peter Ludwig, baptized 10 September 1755; and (7) Johann Adam, baptized 14 January 1759, died 9 September 1760.

Matthias Kuhrmann, a farmer, his wife Katharina, and children (Margaretha, age 20; Georg, age 16; Peter, age 10) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard the galliot named Kronshlot under the command of Skipper Ivan Kunakovskii.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Seelmann on 16 August 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 67.

The 1798 census of Seelmann records Georg in Household No. Sm21 and Peter in Sm14.

The 1767 census records that Matthias Kuhrmann came from the German village of Steinfeld in the Alsace region.
