Johann[es] Kortz, a single man, arrived from Lübeck via Reval [Estonia] at the port of Oranienbaum on 25 May 1766 aboard a pinque named Новая Двинка (New Dvinka [a river in Russia]) under the command of Lieutenant Ivan Perepechin.
He settled in the Volga German colony of Göbel on 20 May 1767 and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 64 along with his new wife Karolina.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Kortz was a cobbler from the German village of Oppenheim. The 1767 census records that he was a farmer from the German village of Rodenbach in the Kurmainz region.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Kortz family among the Volga German colonies.
