Michael Kowatsch, a hussar [soldier in a light cavalry regiment], and his wife Marianna arrived from Danzig at the port of Oranienbaum on 20 May 1766 aboard the galliot Die Hoffnung.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Hussenbach where widow Maria Kowatsch is recorded on the 1798 census in Household No. Hs016.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Michael Kowatsch came from the German region of Ungarn.
There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
