Jakob Krantz and his wife Anna arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 18 June 1766 aboard the ship Die Jungfer Friederika under the command of Skipper Christian Korsholm.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Straub on 12 May 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 11.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Jakob Krantz was a farmer from the German region of Wertheim while the 1767 census records that he was a cobbler (Schuhmacher) from the German village of Lebenstedt.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Knautz family among the Volga German colonies.
