Andreas Kraus, a tobacco farmer (Tabakbauer), immigrated from Bern, Switzerland, to the German region of Brandenburg. He moved from there to Schleswig-Holstein (Denmark) arriving in the town of Schleswig on 17 March 1761. He married there to [Anna] Margaretha Güthlen (age 28).
While in Schleswig-Holstein, he is recorded with 4 step-daughters [surname not recorded]: Anna Katharina, age 17; Anna Wilhelmina Charlotta, age 13; Anna Susanna, age 12; Elisabeth, age 2.
They left the Danish colonies in July 1763 and joined the migration to Russia.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Enders on 27 July 1765. Andreas, his wife, newborn son Johann Friedrich, and stepdaughter Anna Louisa (age 12) are recorded in Enders on the 1767 census in Household No. 9.
There do not appear to be any surviving male descendants of this Kraus family among the Volga German colonies.
