Jakob Kretlein, a miller (Müller), his wife Maria Elisabeth, and sons (Johann Heinrich, age 5; Johann Heinrich Samuel, age 3-months) are recorded on the 1767 census of Straub in Household No. 21. They had settled there on 12 May 1767.

The 1767 census records that Jakob Kretlein came from the German village of Lorsbach in the Darmstadt region.
