Matthias Kumpallo, a farmer, settled in the Volga German colony of Louis on 14 June 1766. He is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 2 along with his new wife, widow Anna Margaretha Schäfer, and her children.

The 1767 census records that Matthias Kumpallo came from the German village of Bernkastel in the Kurtrier region.

There are no known surviving male descendants of this family among the Volga German colonies.
