Discussion & Documentation

Adam Künzel, a single carpenter, arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 9 June 1766 aboard the ship Mann und Frau under the command of Skipper Daniel Berg.

Adam Künzel, a carpenter (Zimmermann), his [new] wife Anna Elisabeth, and son Georg Ludwig (age 1) are recorded on the 1767 census of Warenburg in Household No. 66 along with stepson Johann Philipp Ohl (age 15). They had arrived in Warenburg on 12 May 1767.

The widow and children of Adam Kanzel [sic] are recorded on the 1798 census in Households No. 5 & 6.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Adam Künzel came from the German village of Aschaffenburg.

Some sources translate this surname as Kanzel, but this is believed to be an error.
