Discussion & Documentation

Widower Konrad Lais, a farmer, and his daughters (Margaretha, age 15; Anna Dorothea, age 13; Katharina, age 9) settled in the Volga German colony of Huck on 1 July 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 7.

The 1798 census of Huck records daughter Dorothea in Household No. Hk02 and daughter Katharina in Household No. Hk38.

The 1767 census records that Konrad Lais came from the German region of Isenburg. There are no known surviving male descendants of this Lais family among the Volga German colonies.
