Mattias Lang was born in approximately 1784 in the village of Breitenbach in Lotharingia [Lorraine].
He served as a soldier in the 4th Infantry Regiment of Napoleon's Army. He fought against the Russians and was captured.
Milovidov records that as of 1814 two brothers and two sisters were still living in the village of Breitenbach.
He was settled in the Volga German colony of Mariental and assigned to the household of Martin Kinderknecht.
He is recorded on the 1834 census of Mariental in Household No. 190 and on the 1850 census of Mariental in Household No. 227 along with a note that he died there in 1850.
Milovidov records that Mattias Lang came from the German village of Breitenbach in Lotharingia [Lorraine]. There are two villages named Breitenbach that are located in the historical region of Alsace-Lorraine. Today, both of them are in France.
