Nikolaus LeGagne, a merchant (Kaufmann), his wife Eva Margaretha, and their son Jean (age 10) settled in the Volga German colony of Franzosen on 16 May 1766. they are recorded there on the 1767 census along with a new-born daughter Elisabeth (age ½) in Household No. 36.
The 1767 census records that Nikolaus LeGagne came from the French village of Bacqueville.
