Leister*
Johann Leister, a cobbler, his wife Barbara Katharina, and daughters (Maria Katharina age 8; Maria Barbara,age 3) arrived from Lübeck at the port in Oranienbaum on 13 September 1766 aboard the hooker Die Jungfer Dietrika under the command of skipper Christian Korsholm.
Johann Leister, his wife Barbara, and daughters (Catrina, age 9; Maria Barbara,age 3) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.
Johann Leister, a farmer, his wife Barbara Katharina Werz, and daughters (Maria Katharina, age 9; Barbara, age 4; Maria Elisabeth, age ¾) are recorded on the 1767 census of Köhler in Household No. 32. They had settled in Köhler on 21 August 1767.
Johannes is recorded on the 1798 Census in Köhler in Household No. Kl40. Daughter Maria Catharina is recorded in Household No. Kl25 married to Georg Anton Schäfer.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Leister came from the German region of Fulda. The 1767 census recordsthat he came from the German village of Herbstein.
There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
