Lempe (Paulskaya)
Christian Lempe, a farmer, his wife Elisabeth, son Joseph (age 13), and [orphan] Margaretha [Stölz] (age 14) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.
Christian Lemp [sic], his wife Elisabeth, children (Joseph, age 14; Catharina, born en route), and [step-daughter] Margaretha [Stölz] (age 14) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.
The settled in the Volga German colony of Paulskaya on 7 June 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 21 along with orphan Margaretha Stölz (age not recorded). The 1767 census does not record a relationship between the Lempe and Stölz families.
Both the Oranienbaum passenger list and the 1767 census record that Christian Lempe came from the German region of Friedberg.
