Jakob Lenz, a farmer, and his wife Barbara settled in the Volga German colony of Stahl am Karaman on 9 July 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 5.

The 1767 census records that Jakob Lenz came from the Swedish city of Stockholm and that Barbara came from the German city of Stuttgart in the Württemberg region.
