Mattias Lucht was born in 1781 in Poland. He served in Napoleon's army and fought against the Russians. He was captured by the Russians and settled among the Volga German colonies. He appears on the 1832-1843 Family List of Schäfer.

Mattias Schäfer and his family are recorded on the 1834 census of Schäfer in Household No. 63.

Mattias Schäfer and his family are recorded on the 1850 census of Schäfer in Household No. 113.

The death of Mattias Schäfer in 1851 is recorded on the 1857 census of Schäfer in Household No. 113.
