Heinrich May, a cobbler (Schuhmacher), and his wife Maria Elisabeth settled in the Volga German colony of Shcherbakovka on 15 June 1765. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 25.
Christoph Mai from Shcherbakovka and his family are recorded on the 1857 census of Gnadentau.
The 1767 census records that Heinrich May came from the German town of Königsberg.
