Heinrich Martel, a farmer, his wife, Elisabeth, and his two brothers (Johann, age 18; Peter, age 16¼) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 21 July 1766 aboard a koff named Alette under the command of Skipper Wybe Hendricks.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Dehler on 26 June 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 29. Johannes Martel is also recorded there in Household No. 51.
In 1798, Johann Peter Martel moved from Dehler to Brabander.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Heinrich Martel came from the German region of Mainz. The 1767 census records that he came from the German region of Kurmainz.
