Hermann März and his family settled in the Volga German colony of Chasselois on 2 August 1766. Hermann März, a farmer, his wife Anna Barbara, and son Peter (age ¾) are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 14.

Margaretha Mermis née Mertz from Chasselois, presumed daughter of Hermann März, and her family are recorded on the 1798 census of Herzog in Household No. Hr05.

Katharina Linenberg née Mertz from Chasselois, presumed daughter of Hermann März, and her family are recorded on the 1798 census of Herzog in Household No. Hr21.

The 1767 census records that Hermann März came from the French village of Sierk.
