Valentin Maul, a farmer, his wife Anna, and children (Anna, age 7; Johann, age 5¼; Tobias [sic], age 1½) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 11 June 1766 aboard a ship named Der Junge Heinrich (The Young Henry) under the command of Skipper Heinrich Niemann.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Valentin Maul came from the German region of Darmstadt. The 1767 census records that Valentin Maul came from the German village of Nieder-Beerbach in the Darmstadt region.
