Johannes Meier, a farmer and cobbler (Schuster), his wife Magdalena, and son Friedrich (age 2) immigrated to Denmark (Schleswig-Holstein), arriving at the city of Schleswig on 4 July 1761.
The birth of Juliana Margaretha Meier, daughter of Johannes & Magdalena Meier, is recorded on 19 April 1763 in the parish register of Sieverstedt [Denmark].
They were dismissed from the Danish colonies on 24 April 1765 and joined the migration to Russia.
Johannes Meier and his family settled in the Volga German colony of Balzer on 28 March 1766 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 21.
The 1767 census records that Johannes Meier came from Switzerland. The Eichhorns record that Johannes Meier came from "Markgrafschaft Baden-Durlach."
