Alexander Meier, a farmer, and his family settled in the Volga German colony of Dönhof on 21 July 1766. Alexander, his wife Anna Katharina, and son Georg Michael (age 1) are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 45.
In 1794, Johann Christoph Meier moved from Dönhof to Kratzke.
Desdendants of this Meier family (Johannes, born in 1835 in Dönhof) later moved to the daughter colony of Gnadenfeld.
The 1767 census records that Alexander Meier came from the German region of Württemberg.
