Discussion & Documentation

Adam Meng, a hosier (Strumpfwirker), his wife Anna, and children (Katharina, age 11; Andreas, age 5¼) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 9 June 1766 aboard an English frigate named Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.

Johann Adam Mitne [sic], a craftsman (Handwerker), his wife Anna Magdalena, and stepdaughter Wilhelmina Anna Katharina [surname not recorded] (age 13) are recorded on the 1767 census of Stahl am Karaman in Household No. 23. They had arrived in Stahl am Karaman on 10 June 1767.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Adam Meng came from the German region of Weimar. The 1767 census records that Johann Adam Mitne [sic] came from the German village of Weimar in the region of Sachsen (Saxony).

There are no known surviving male lines of this Meng family among the Volga German colonies.
