Two Metzger families arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 2 August 1766 aboard an English frigate named Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax. Their relationship to each other, if any, requires additional research.
(1) Johann Metzger, a miller (Müller), his wife Anna, and children (Elisabeth, age 9; Karl, age 7) arrived in Oranienbaum.
It is not known what happened to this family following their arrival in Russia.
(2) Balthasar Metzger, a miller (Müller), and his wife Maria arrived in Oranienbaum.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Philippsfeld on 3 August 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 38.
The Oranienbaum passenger list recorded that Balthasar Metzger was a miller while the 1767 census records that he was a farmer.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that these Metzger families came from the German region of Hessen. The 1767 census records that Balthasar Metzger came from the German village of Berod in Hessen.
