Heinrich Michaelis, son of Ludwig Michaelis, was born in approximately 1791 in the German region of Westfalen. He served in Napoleon's army and fought against the Russians.

He was captured by the Russians, and in 1812, was settled in the Volga German colony of Holstein.

He is recorded on the Holstein marriage register marrying 27 February 1817 Maria Elisabeth Spielmann, daughter of Konrad Spielmann of Stephan.

He is recorded on the 1834 Census of Holstein in Household No. 67, on the 1850 Census of Holstein in Household No. 107, and on the 1857 Census of Holstein in Household No. 111.
