Discussion & Documentation

Michael Musemann, a farmer, and his wife Katharina arrived from Lübeck via Reval [Estonia] at the port of Oranienbaum on 27 May 1766 aboard a pinque named Слон (Slon - Elephant in Russian) under the command of Lieutenant Sergey Panov.

Michael Lüsemann [sic], a single farmer, settled in the Volga German colony of Frank and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 62.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Michael Musemann came from the German region of Thüngen. The 1767 census records that Michael Lüsemann came from the German village of Weisenbach in the Freie Adelprovinz der alten Ritter. This could be the village of Weisenbach in Kreis Rhein-Neckar of Baden-Württemberg.

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
