Johann Muss (age 15) and his siblings (Anna, age 8; Kaspar, age 3; Dorothea, age 1) are recorded on the 1767 census of Katharinenstadt in Household No. 54 along with their stepfather Johann Gottfried Burmeister.
Johann Gottfried Burmeister, his wife Anna Margaretha née Lornek (widow Muss), children (Johann Gottfried, age 21; Johanna, age 7), and stepchildren (Johann Joachim Muss, age 23; Margaretha Cobradin[?] Muss, age 11; Dorothea Elisabeth Muss, age 9) are recorded on the 1776 Katharinenstadt Grundbuch [Land Register] in Household No. 166. [See Burmeister Family.]
The 1767 census does not record from where the Muss children came. The 1776 Katharinenstadt Land Register records that the Muss children came from the [Principality of] Ratzeburg in [the Duchy] of Mecklenburg.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Muss family among the Volga German colonies.
