Georg [Michael] Nies, his wife Maria, and children (Johann, age 22; Jakob, age 20; Magdalena, age 17; Anna, age 14; Eva, age 5) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 18 June 1766 aboard the ship Die Jungfer Friederika under the command of Skipper Christian Korsholm.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Straub on 12 May 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 31 along with Georg's new wife Anna Katharina and her daughter Katharina [surname not recorded] (age 8).
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Georg Nies was a farmer from the German village of Ludwighausen while the 1767 census records that he was a brickmason (Maurer) from the German village of Rossach in the Heilbronn region.
