Nies (Warenburg)*
Johann Georg Koch, a brewer (Bierbrauer), his wife Katharina, and [step-]son Johann Heinrich [Nies] (age 7) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 15 June 1766 aboard the ship Die Vergelte Weintraube under the command of Skipper Anderson.
Johann Heinrich Nissen [sic] (age 8) is recorded on the 1767 census of Warenburg in Household No. 37 along with his stepfather Johann Georg Koch.
Johann Heinrich Nies and his stepfather Johann Georg Koch are recorded on the 1798 census of Warenburg in Household No. Wr115.
The death of Johann Heinrich Nies in 1810 is recorded on the 1811 census of Warenburg in Household No. 115.
The 1811 census records that Johan Heinrich Nies had one surviving son (Heinrich Kaspar, age 1½), but Heinrich Kaspar does not appear on the 1834 census of Warenburg and is therefore presumed to have died before 1816.
The 1767 census records that Johann Heinrich Nissen [sic] came from Luxembourg.
There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
