Georg Nelius [sic], a farmer, and his wife Eva arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 14 June 1766 aboard the ship named Die Neue Fortuna (The New Fortune) under the command of Skipper Ahrens Steingraber.
Georg Nelius [sic] is recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.
Georg Niklas (age 26), a farmer, and his wife Maria Eva (age 20) are recorded on the 1767 census of Preuss in Household No. 74. They had arrived in the Volga German colony of Preuss on 15 July 1767.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Georg Nelius [sic] came from the German region of Zweibrücken. The 1767 census records that Georg Niklas came from the German village of Oberhausen in the Kurpfalz region.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Niklas family among the Volga German colonies.
