An article by Wilhelm Funk records the following going to Russia:

Joh. Gg. Niclas [sic], a tailor (Schneider) from Bayreuth, son of the deceased Friedr. Niclas, farrier and weapon smith (Huf- und Waffenschmid) in Bayreuth, Lutheran, & Marg. Rohr, daughter of the deceased Hanns Eg. Rohr, merchant (Händler) in Kremsdorf in the area of Bamberg, Catholic, married on 7 June 1766 in the Lutheran Church in Wöhrd.

Johann Nikolaus, a farmer, and his wife Anna Margaretha settled in the Volga German colony of Schäfer on 1 August 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 13.

Widow Margaretha Nikolaus, her daughter, and daughter's family are recorded on the 1798 census of Schäfer in Household No. Sf34.

The 1767 census records that Johann Nikolaus came from the German village of Gandiberg [?] in the Kurpfalz region while his wife Anna Margaretha came from the German region of Darmstadt.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Nikolaus family among the Volga German colonies.
