Discussion & Documentation

Widow Margaretha Nünstill and her son Valentin arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard the barque named Fortitudo under the command of Skipper John Scott. She remarried to the widower Heinrich Lauterbach who arrived in Oranienbaum on the same ship.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Kraft on 18 August 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 6 with the combined Lauterbach and Nünstill families.

Kaspar Nünstill and his family are recored on the 1834 census of Franzosen in Household No. 87 along with a note that they moved to Kraft.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Margaretha Nünstill came from the German village of Dienheim.
