Johann Michael Olgarten, his wife Maria, and daughter Sophia (age 7) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 28 August 1766 aboard the ship Der Junge Heinrich under the command of Skipper Heinrich Niemann.
Johann Wilhelm Olgarten, a stocking maker (Strumpfwirker), his wife Katharina, and daughter Juliana (age 8) are recorded on an appendix to the 1767 census of Nieder-Monjou in Household No. 75 along with a note that they relocated to the colony of Katharinenstadt in 1768.
Sophia Julianna Olgarten, orphaned daughter of Johann Wilhelm Olgarten, is recorded on the 1776 Katharinenstadt Grundbuch [Land Register] in Household No. 181.
The Oranienbaum passenger list does not record from where Johann Michael Olgarten came. The 1767 census records that Johann Wilhelm Olgaten came from the German region of Wittenburg. The 1776 Katharinenstadt Land Register records that Sophia Juliana Olgarten came from the German village of Westerburg in the region of Leiningen.
There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
