Paulÿ (Schäfer)*

[Johann] Georg Pauly, a farmer, and his family arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 25 July 1766 aboard the snow-brig named Maria Sophia under the command of Skipper Johann Bauert.

Joh. Georg Pauly, his wife Maria Doroth., and son Arndt Gottfriedt (born en route) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Schäfer on 30 August 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 50 along with Zacharius Landberger and the orphaned Grapp daughters.The 1767 census does not record a relationship among the Pauly, Landberger, and Grapp families although the Pauly and Landberger families arrived in Oranienbaum aboard the same ship.

The 1767 census records that Johann Georg Pauly came from the town of Straßburg in France.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Pauly family among the Volga German colonies.
