Discussion & Documentation

Sebastian Pauly, a linen weaver (Leineweber), his wife Katharina, and children (Johannes, age 8; Anna, age 4; Heinrich, age 2½) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 7 May 1766 aboard the galliot named Anna Katharina under the command of Skipper Daniel Heyer.

Sebastian Pauly, his wife Catharina, and sons (Johann, age 9; Heinrich, age 2½) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that son Heinrich died en route.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Kaneau on 7 June 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 74.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Sebastian Pauly was a linen weaver who came from the German region of Braunfels. The 1767 census records that Sebastian Pauly was a farmer who came from the German village of Villingen.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Pauly family among the Volga German colonies.
