Joseph Philippe, a farmer, settled in the Volga German colony of Franzosen on 28 July 1765. He, his wife Maria, and their son Philipp (age 1½) are recorded on the 1767 census of Franzosen in Household No. 22.
The 1764 list of colonists records that Joseph Philippe came from the French region of Comte. The 1767 census records that Joseph Philippe came from the French village of Bessan.
There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
