Jakob Preuss, a cobbler (Schuhmacher), and his wife Barbara settled in the Volga German colony of Preuss on 16 August 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 109.

The 1767 census records that Jakob Preuss came from the German village of Arnstein near Würzburg.
