Discussion & Documentation

Anton Prevot arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 16 August 1766 aboard a snow-brig named Prinz Carl (Prince Carl) under the command of Skipper Christopher Losser.

Anton Proevot [sic] is recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

Anton Prevot, a barber (Friseur), and his wife Elisabeth Speher are recorded on the 1767 census of Katharinenstadt in Household No. 148. They had settled there on 3 August 1767.

Anton Provoff (age 35), a farmer, and his wife Elisabeth née Spar (age 23) are recorded on the 1776 Katharinenstadt Grundbuch [Land Register] in Household No. 137 along with a note that they are on leave [Beurlaubt] in Moscow.

The 1767 census records that Anton Prevot came from the French region of Verdun. The 1776 Kathrinenstadt Land Register records that he came from Paris in France and that his wife came from the German village of Schmalwasser.

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
