Rau (Straub)*

Jakob Friedrich Rauch [sic], his wife Maria, and children (Johann, age 13; Anna, age 9) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 18 June 1766 aboard the hooker Anna Katharina under the command of Skipper Adolph Scharpenberg.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Straub on 12 May 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 50.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Jakob Friedrich Rauch [sic] was a farmer. The 1767 census records that Jakob Friedrich Rau [sic] was a weaver (Leineweber).

The 1767 census records that Johann Friedrich Rau [sic] came from the German village of Großsachsen in the Kurpfalz region.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Rau family among the Volga German colonies.
